A sweet tradition passed down from generation to generation
For almost 90 years, ELLINIKON stands out for its traditional flavors and handmade creations. The reputation of the oldest pastry shop in Thessaloniki continues to be passed down from generation to generation, since, for the residents and visitors of the city, ELLINIKON has been associated with the concept of enjoyment.
Its history begins in 1935, when George Pantsios together with his partner opened their store called ETHNIKON in the area of Villa Bianca.
A tram derailment in 1983 leads to the destruction of the business, and this circumstance forces Georgios Pantsios to move the shop across the street, to a three-storey building on Vasilissis Olgas Street. It will remain there until 1965, when it will be moved to an adjacent building.
The name change takes place shortly after the end of the Second World War, and from ETHNIKON, the pastry shop acquires the name we all know today.
After the untimely death of the founder, the family of George Pantsios decides to continue the business. Initially, the reins were taken over by his daughter Aspasia, while now the “helm” of HELLENIKON passes to the third generation, the granddaughter Chariklia Kyritsis. Their passion for good confectionery, the long history of the store, but also the love they receive from old and new customers are what make them continue the family tradition with gusto and a smile.
From the beginning of its foundation, HELLENIKON managed to combine classic flavors with innovation and creativity. Along with the famous ice creams, traditional pastes and the delicious armenoville, it was one of the first pastry shops to bring macarons to Thessaloniki. Therefore, it is no coincidence that his clientele included some of the biggest celebrities, such as, among others, Aliki Vougiouklaki, Harris Alexiou and Jenny Karezi.
Today, you can enjoy sweet creations, savory snacks and coffees in a wonderful environment of unique service. Guided by quality and keeping traditional recipes unchanged, the staff produces all products with the purest raw materials in the shop’s laboratory.
